- 'Fiber optic'
rules and shapes by Springfield
- A new development in laser technology
means that the markings on the rule stand out as if illuminated.
The grid is digitally etched below the surface
so that it does not wear off like older screen printed rules.
The surface of the ruler is treated so that
it slightly grips the fabric for surer positioning and less slip.

- Which is the best cutter
to use?
- Kay is often asked which is the best cutter
to use. The answer is obviously "the one which suits you
best. " This will depend on how
much you intend to use it and how much you want to spend.
- All the cutters on sale work well but
most serious quilters select one with a blade size of at least
45mm. Kay uses an Olfa delux as shown. It now retails at $33.50.

- Although it is one of the more expensive,
she has found that it is easier on her wrist and less tireing
to use - but then she cuts a lot of fabric. The axle appears
to resist wear better than some other brands.
- The cutter can be set up for left and
right hand cutting and the double safety lock is an important
consideration for parents of small children (and big ones and
husbands too).
