Kay's aim is to supply quality fabrics at the lowest possible prices.

She stocks over 2000 different pure cotton fabrics suitable for patchwork including many well known brands.

  • Standard width (115cm) fabrics are priced at $5.50, $6.60, $8.00 and $10.00 a metre.
  • Marles and overprints $12.00, $15.00 per metre
  • Homespuns - $5.00 per metre
  • Quilters muslin (56in) - from $12.50 per metre

The range includes many exciting prints and a wide range of unusual checks, tartans, flannels, Christmas and Halloween patterns and printed panels.

Because the range of fabrics is constantly changing it is sometimes not possible to make individual fabrics available by mail order however it is possible to order packs of fat quarters in particular colour ranges and tonings. The actual fabrics included may change from time to time.

Fat Quarters

A "fat quarter" is prepared by cutting half a meter of fabric in half along the length. It is almost square and is more useful than a 'normal' 1/4 meter length.

Fat quarter packs contain 5 pieces (checks, 6 pieces) and cost $12 each.

They can be provided in

  • 'go together' packs in different colour tonings,
  • pattern packs like those shown below in different themes
  • Checks in mixed or similar colours

 Bias Binding
Double fold bias binding gives a neat durable edging to many projects. Once you understand the trick, it is easy to make your own out of any suitable fabric to match your project.
Bias binding for quilting projects is usually used double, so a piece cut 2 3/4" (7cm) wide makes a 1/2" (1.2cm) binding.

How to make your Bias.
Measure round your project to work out the length of bias required and add at least 20% to this, (If you measure 4 metres, make at least 5), then take a square piece of fabric of the size needed to make the length of bias required. For 7cm cut bias (as above), a 50 cm square makes about 3 metres, a 75cm square makes about 7 metres, a 1 metre square makes about 13 metres and a square on a standard width of fabric (about 115 cm) makes a little over 16metres.

Fold the bias lengthwise, right side out and press.
Lay the bias on the front of the quilt with the cut edge towards the edge of the quilt.
Sew the binding to the quilt 1/4" from the edge, using a walking foot (if you have it), then turn the quilt over. On this (reverse) side, sew the binding using a blind hem stitch.
